The Bellagio hotel boasts some of Las Vegas’ biggest artistic masterpieces. The hotel lobby’s ceiling is adorned with a Dale Chihuly sculpture, commissioned exclusively for Bellagio. The piece, called Fiori di Como, is made of 2,000 colorful hand-blown glass flowers. The Picasso restaurant inside the Bellagio not only offers gourmet cuisine, but also surrounds diners with an extensive collection of original Picasso artwork.
But by far the largest display of art in the hotel can be found in the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art. Located at the heart of the luxurious Bellagio, the gallery presents world-class exhibitions of art and objects drawn from internationally known museums and private collections. The gallery opened in 1998 and has since showcased exhibitions including Monet masterworks, Andy Warhol’s celebrity portraits, Picasso’s ceramics, Fabergé treasures from the Kremlin and Alexander Calder mobiles.
The next exhibit, “Painting Women: Works from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston” is a collection of 34 paintings of female artists including Georgia O’Keeffe, Mary Cassatt and Berthe Morisot. It showcases examples of artistic partnerships between men and women. Paintings — on loan from the Boston museum — are arranged thematically from the 1870s through the mid-20th century.
“‘Painting Women’ tells a powerful and emotional story detailing how women artists developed and contributed in an era when they were yet to be fully recognized,” said BGFA Executive Director Tarissa Tiberti.”Each of the works represents a time period when talent was under-appreciated because it was assigned to gender, as the wheels of equality we’re slowly, but purposefully, grinding.”
Whether you look at art frequently or never gave it much thought, add some time in your trip to check it out. You really don’t have to be an expert. In fact, the gallery staff encourages art lovers of all levels, whether novice or advance, to come enjoy the gallery and expand on their knowledge.
